We’re excited to finally share the title of our first fine press edition: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë.
Charlotte Brontë and Jane Eyre felt like the most natural partner to begin our publishing journey. Jane Eyre’s evocative gothic atmosphere, emotional depth, and moral conviction has resonated with readers for over 175 years, and the novel remains as moving today as when it first appeared. And then there’s Jane, the namesake heroine of the novel: she is fierce, introspective, and quietly revolutionary. The themes of resilience, self-respect, and the search for belonging also seemed like an echo of our own identity as a press in this moment of publishing our first offering.
Our edition of Jane Eyre will be lavishly illustrated, with a series of original paintings and drawings by an artist yet to be decided. Printed letterpress, each page will honour the tactile beauty of traditional craftsmanship. We’ve spared no detail in creating a physical book as enduring as the novel itself. We are planning to publish in two states: Numbered and Lettered. The Numbered volumes will be hand-bound in leather, with careful attention to finish. For our lettered editions, we’ve designed a special additional binding detail: stone, a nod to Jane’s quiet defiance and unwavering sense of self.
Choosing Jane Eyre was a decision rooted in both passion and purpose. It’s a novel that speaks to independence, dignity, and the complexity of the human spirit. As our inaugural title, it reflects what Acacia Press stands for and aims to become. We want to bring you timeless literature, interpreted through exceptional art and design, housed in books made to be treasured for generations.
More details about pre-orders, artwork previews, and binding options will follow soon. For now, we’re honoured to invite you into this next chapter with us as we bring Jane Eyre to life through the hands of artists, printers, and bookbinders who share our love for the written word.
