We are a fine press publisher based in Perth, Western Australia.
Each book is shaped with care, made to be lived with as much as read.
Our Story
This work grew out of a long relationship with books and a background in design. It felt less like a decision and more like a direction that was already set.
Stories change how we see. They shift the way we understand each other, especially when they carry voices unlike our own. Over time, that quiet accumulation of who those voices belong to and represent matters.
A Word on Acacias
Acacia trees hold their ground. They are distinctive, familiar, and found almost everywhere. While most species are native to Australia, they also grow across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, and have taken root in parts of Europe.
Acacia Press began on one side of Australia and settled on the other, and the acacia tree connects both places. For many Aboriginal peoples, from the Noongar in the Perth region to the Dharawal in the Sydney region, the flowering of wattle signals seasonal change. That sudden wash of yellow marks a shift in the year. It carries a sense of renewal, even in the middle of cold weather. There is always at least one species in bloom somewhere, a small reminder that the seasons are never still.
Its presence is practical as well as symbolic. Acacia fibres lend themselves to papermaking, and the trees grow quickly, offering a more considered material choice.
We keep our editions small and deliberate. Each decision, from type to binding, is made with attention. Our focus leans toward literary fiction, with a particular interest in voices that have not always been given space. What matters most is that the work carries weight, culturally or emotionally, and that it earns its place as a book.
Though we are early in our journey, we work alongside respected craftspeople in fine press publishing, including Phil Abel of Hand & Eye Press and Ludlow Bookbinders.
